information on dog breeds No Comments »

There are numerous reasons that most people just love to own pups for pets. Some people want them for companionship, others for protection or perhaps for income, but whatever their intentions are for owning one, potty training puppies is one of the most important things an owner needs to learn first.

Well, if you're a first timer or just beginning to parent an adorable and cute puppy, you don't need to worry. Potty training a puppy is one of the most challenging jobs, indeed; however, it does not have to be as complicated or traumatic as what you expect it to be. Read about the quickest ways to house break your puppy successfully:

Designate a specific potty-spot - whether you leash, crate, outdoor, or indoor train your puppy, you'll have to select the potty-spot and be consistent with where you want your puppy to go. Some use a litter box, a wee pad, or a newspaper for indoor or crate training, while a specific area in the yard would be great for outdoor or leash training. Make sure you introduce that specific spot to your puppy with supervision and make it uses the same spot in on a regular basis until it gets used to that spot.

Use a command or a trigger word- as most puppies have instincts to understand and submit to a command, it is important to be consistent in choosing a word or phrase when you want him to do something. Just like a baby, a puppy has to listen to and learn your language before they can understand and do things. Do not mixup pups with difficult commands, instead, use terms that are short and easy to recognize like "go poop" or "go potty" if you want them to.

Keep your puppy on a schedule- this is the key to potty training puppies success. Aside from feeding or playing with him at certain times, you'll also need to make a schedule when you'll need to take the dog out to go potty on a consistant basis. Very young puppies may need to go out side approximately every 30 minutes during the day as their ability to recognize the urge to go potty hasn't developed yet. Nevertheless, you can train them to become sensitive and accustomed to a schedule, as they grow older.

Do not scold them- they are like babies that often make mistakes so you always have to be patient in potty training puppies. If they missed or made an accident, be gentle enough to say "no-no" and try again. Reward your puppy for a job weel done - once your puppy finally succeeds, try to use words and/or phrases like "good boy," "good girl," or "very good" to praise him/her or treat him/her with a treat to let your puppy know it is being rewarded for a job well done. Don't forget, puppies are smart by nature so praising and rewarding them just might be a good way to encourage them to keep to a routine.

If You Get A Dog Be Sure You Train It Properly

information on dog breeds No Comments »

All children love pets and they would love to have a dog if their parents will let them. Most parents imagine the disruption owning a dog would cause to their lives and try to resist. Parents often give in to the constant pressure but it may take the kids some time to convince them.

Once you have made the decision to get a dog you must choose what breed you want to get. You may find your local dog rescue center has a selection of dogs they would like to find homes for.

A new puppy in your home will probably mess because it is scared. Now you understand why people talk about potty training their dogs. Dogs are clean animals so they don’t want to mess near their bed so you must choose the right area for your dog potty training.

Your new dog does not yet know what is right or wrong and it is probably nervous as well. Take your puppy to the potty area if it looks uncomfortable but give it lots of reassurance. If it does it’s business congratulate it and tell it what a good dog it is.

Dogs will usually learn pretty quick but a young dog needs a lot of reminding what to do, at first. Be very patient and don’t get annoyed about accidents as they will happen and are not done on purpose.

If your puppy needs to get to the potty area he should be able to easily reach it to be successful. When he does give him lots of affection and congratulate him to show what a good dog he is. They learn the right thing to do and like getting congratulated so there are less accidents after a while.

More training can follow once you have a house trained dog. A puppy will enjoy being trained to sit by your kids. Your kids will enjoy teaching your dog and can play together for hours.

When your dog is trained to sit and stay on command you can develop the training to include other, more complicated, lessons. You should teach your dog to walk properly on a leash by teaching it to walk to heel.

Your dog must not run off to look at new things so it is important you teach it to stay with you.All the smells around will attract your dogs attention but he must stay with you unless you tell him otherwise.

Strangers in the street may not like your dog jumping up at them so make sure it behaves well. Don’t let your dog lick people’s faces because some people find it a very unpleasant experience.

Owning a dog brings responsibilities to keep it under control as well as bringing a lot of fun and happiness to your family. Take care that your dog is obedient and prevent it being annoying for other people. A well trained dog will behave properly around other people and animals and it will be a credit to you and your family.
