House Train Your Puppy the Easy Way

information on dog breeds No Comments »

The whole family loves the excitement of bringing a new puppy home. Everyone wants to enjoy playing with their new puppy. One thing no one seems to like about the puppy though, is his using the house as his potty. Crate training puppies is the easiest and best way to deal with the whole house training process. In comparison with the old way of placing newspapers on the floor, the crate training method is so much easier and quicker.I can tell you that the paper method beat doing nothing at all, but it was still at first a hit and miss proposition, and I hated cleaning up the misses. The dark night I stepped on one of these misses, deviously hidden on the way to the bathroom by my sneaky puppy, was the night I decided to give crate training a try.

You will avoid having the accidents that will inevitably happen with other house training systems.  Using the crate training method requires you to keep the puppy in his crate at all times unless someone is actively watching him, and making sure to avoid any accidents. I have found that if I don’t supervise  my puppy pretty closely, I’ll be giving an accident an opportunity to happen, and as they say “accidents happen”.

  • When crate training your puppy, try to keep his crate in the room you are spending most of the day in. For someone who works at home, keep him with you in your work area.  You can also keep an eye and ear open for any whining that might indicate it is time for a potty break. Don’t let him out frequently just because he is bored, but be sure to let him out if it seems like it is time for potty .
  • Watch for signs of the puppy waking up from one of his naps-they always have to go potty right after waking up.  Remember, after a puppy eats and drinks, he’ll need to go potty within the next 30 minutes, so don’t return him to his crate till after that occurs.Training him to use the same area you have determined as his spot every time you take him out reinforces the idea of going then and there.
  • It is good to try to create a routine of  eating, playing, exercise and training so the puppy gets plenty of stimulation when he is not in his crate. If he is tired out, there is a good chance he might sleep the next 2 hours and not have any boredom issues before it is time for the next fun break.
  • Make sure you are staying consistent with the crate training method as that is a key factor for a quicker success. If you are lax about leaving him out of the crate until he is house trained, he will surely have some accidents. Once the smell is in the carpet or on the floor, it will be harder to stop these accidents from reoccurring in the future.  Remember, if your puppy does have an occasional accident, don’t hit him or yell at him. If you happen to see your puppy about to squat, try to stop him with a firm “No” command, and take him outside to the regular spot.  Remember, the potty training should always focus on praise and reward for a good job-using the right spot-but don’t get negative if there is an occasional setback. Like anything else, the closer you adhere to the crate training system’s methods, the quicker and better the progress you will see.

I found the crate training method worked much better than the old newspaper on the floor technique. Maybe my pup was a quick learner, but within a couple weeks or so, he was house training.  Don’t let them out at night just for whining when they are bored-only for real potty breaks. If you always make the crate seem like a den, rather than a place to put your puppy when you are mad at him, he will have a good attitude about going in there, and you shouldn’t have the whining problem some puppies have when in the crate.

For your new puppy, be smart and use the crate training method for house training your little buddy. Dogs Diets

Ever since the internet got popular, there have been several great pet sites that have been hosted. With time, some of them just fizzled out and some of them became real superstars.

Of those sites, there is one that caught our attention - As soon as you log onto the site, you will notice the introduction saying that the site is not built by business people, but by a team of vets, pet owners, and animal lovers. That feels nice if you are a pet owner. Every inch of the site is designed keeping in mind your love for animals, and whether you are looking for help in handling your dog, cat, or even fish, you will find all the necessary inputs and tools right here.

Another advantage of the site is the forums. For instance, the cat forum is pretty popular among the users, and the questions and answers are real experiences from real cat owners. That is a pleasant experience indeed, when compared to the bot-like FAQs normally posted on sites.

The most persistent complaint from dog owners is that their dog barks too much!

While having a dog at home is a pleasure most of the times, it becomes a pain when the dog gets into a barking frenzy, and you don’t even know the reason why the dog is barking. A lot of people decide to forcibly shut the dog up by putting it into a barking collar. That is not to say that a dog barking collar should not be used. But firstly you need to understand why your dog is barking excessively in the first place.

 Sweet Puppy Dog

  • The most common reasons for a dog to bark are hunger and thirst. Especially in the summer months, slurping water is more of a comfort than a thirst buster for a dog. So ensure that the bowl is full and that too with water that is cool. Same with food.
  • If you live in an area that has a lot of noise and disturbance – like if you live on the main street where there’s a lot of traffic or construction work going on, your dog can get quite anxious if it can only hear the noise and not see it. So one solution would be to let the dog see the happenings on your street and that will normally keep it quiet.
  • Another reason why the dog barks is because he is uncomfortable. It might be too hot for him or too cold; or he might have the need to run out for a while.

If none of these work, you can take the advice of a dog expert and go in for a collar that won’t hurt your dog. Collars have come a long way, and something like a spray collar or a common restrictor could be used safely without harming your pet in any way.

{There are two stages to dog chewing. One is when the dog is getting teeth for the first time, and feels the need to chew on something to alleviate the itch in the mouth! Whatever you put within reach of the puppy during that phase is bound to be chewed up – irrespective of whether it is leather or furniture. There is little you can do at that phase, except redirect its chew-energy towards something that is designated to be chewed. You can get something like a soft bone or a chew-toy for your dog, and each time you catch him chewing something else, redirect his energy towards the chew toy. Every time you see him chewing his designated toy, praise him and play with him so that he knows that this is what he should do.

There are also sprays available at good pet stores that can be sprayed on objects that you do not want your dog to chew. The taste and the smell become overpowering for the dog and it won’t go near. Don’t worry – the ones that you find in the popular stores are all tested and are safe.

If the matter persists, time for you to meet an expert, or probably a vet. There might be some other reason beyond the common realm causing your dog to chew.

The basic psychology of potty training a dog is the same as any other kind of dog training. Praise him when he does it right and say ‘bad dog’ and take him to the designated place when he does wrong. The important thing is that you don’t move the ‘potty area’ around once you bring the pup home. To begin with, you can use absorbent paper, and as the dog becomes older, you can try something like sawdust. Once you have the absorbent paper in place, each time you see the dog getting into potty position, immediately carry him over to the designated area, and wait till the task is done. Change the papers immediately, and keep doing that till the dog gets used to the idea that this is his ‘potty place’. Each time the dog goes by itself to the potty area, praise him and give him a little gift – something to nibble on, or play with him for a while.}

Resources: Dog Health Care Online

There are many different resources available online to find dog health care information.  Although there are some sources that are not reliable, there are others that are posted by individuals in the veterinary field so that the information on the dog health care site online is accurate and up to date.  This dog health care information online is even available for certain breeds of dogs so that specific information can be obtained on how to best care for that particular breed, such as boxer dog care.

Food, Fun And Dog health care online

The most common dog health care information online is the proper food and fun for dogs.  Often, pet owners neglect these areas and end up with overweight dogs that are bored and destructive. When the pet is non handable the owner leave the dog or send it to the shelters or rescue missions.  If they had followed the dog health care online information to address these issues, they would have had a happier pet and would have been able to keep it.

Dog health careinformation online promotes the careful choosing of pet food so that fillers are not the main ingredients.  If the dog food has ‘by-products’ after any of the main ingredients it should usually be avoided.  ‘By-products’ means that whatever is left of the product after it is produced for human consumption is then put into the dog food.  That means for meat products that by products are things such as hooves, beaks, bones and feathers which do not provide nutritional value to the dog.  Another word to be careful of is ‘meal’ because it does not mean that the meat or grain product is pure and whole, providing the proper nutrition for the dog.  The best dog foods, according to the dog health care information online, are those that have whole grains and pure meats as the first main ingredients listed on the package.  These dog foods are usually more expensive than the lesser brands, but the dog food usually lasts longer since it is providing the dog with the nutrition it needs.

Exercising the dogs at least three times per day for fifteen minutes each time is suggested by dog health care information online.  Dogs need the physical and psychological activity that these play times afford them and the result of the play time is a happier and well conditioned pet that the owner can enjoy for years.  An additional benefit is that the owner stays in better physical condition since he is forced to exercise with the dog.

information on dog breeds No Comments »

Once your puppy begins to mature, you want to give it a comfortable place to sleep. Many of the same benefits of a comfortable bed for humans also apply to dogs, such as giving them more energy to play and keeping them generally happier. It is well within the realm of reason that large dog beds could play an important role in your dog's health, alongside other focuses like nutrition and exercise. Considering that dogs spend hours outside each day, you ought to give your dogs a place to unwind and sleep when they are tired outside. Outdoor heated dog beds can help your dog be comfortable, even during the colder months, and these beds are perfect for older dogs, especially those with arthritis.

Health Benefits

The most obvious benefit of outdoor heated dog beds is improved health. Dogs with arthritis can feel miserable, and the heat from one of these beds helps to soothe irritated joints. Even for a dog with sore muscles, outdoor heated dog beds can improve blood flow and help to limit the discomfort that comes with old age. In this regard, these beds are perfect for boosting your dog's energy, making it feel more youthful. Puppies, too, can benefit from heated beds, as the warmth mimics a body, helping puppies to feel more comfortable away from their mothers.

When you purchase an outdoor heated dog bed, you are purchasing a sturdy piece of furniture that is guaranteed against scratches and other wear. That's good to know, because all pet owners know how rough their pets can be on furniture! By being naturally sturdy, outdoor heated dog beds won't become poken, and you can expect them to last for many years before needing replaced. However, that sturdiness shouldn’t imply that these beds aren’t comfortable to rest upon. They are still have many orthopedic qualities that are matched by few interior beds.

However, you needn’t pay top dollar for outdoor heated dog beds either. You should expect to pay at least $40 or so, but the most expensive ones are only a couple hundred dollars at the very high end, still a fraction of what many human beds cost. Knowing that these beds can do wonders for your dog's energy and health, is even $200 too much to pay? Having a proper sleeping surface is integral to health and happiness, as anyone can testify. There is nothing quite like a good night's rest, and you ought to extend the courtesy to the canine members of your family as well.

A Look into the Challenge of Weimaraner Show Dogs

information on dog breeds No Comments »

The weimaraner is a sporting and gun dog that originated from Germany. It instantly draws fans and admirers through either its elegant form and profile, or through its hunting abilities. Its refined bearing enables it to be a formidable entry in dog shows. If you think your weim is competitive enough to join a dog show (and most especially if it has underwent weimaraner training), check and ensure that it is in line with breed standards.

The height and weight of your potential show dog is one of the main considerations in checking your dog for breed conformity. The height up to the top of the shoulders need to be around twenty three to twenty seven inches. As regards weight, a weim needs to be between fifty five to seventy five pounds.

Coat color is the next important concern for your weim. The only two colors permissible are mouse or gray. White markings on the chest are fine, but larger white marks will not make the dog eligible for show. Other markings on the dog’s body besides those mentioned are treated as faults. The coat needs to be short and sleek. Possible coat type variations are the long-haired weim and the blue weim. These types are sought after by some weim fanciers. Nevertheless, these are not acceptable for show. Admirers of the long-haired and blue weims are doing their best to get these two coat types given due acknowledgment, but acceptance is still dim.

Other traits or features the weimaraner will get judged on include the head which needs to display courage and nobility. The proper eye colors are gray, blue-gray, and light amber. The long, folded ears are set high on the head. The ideal nose color is gray, and to those who are contemplating having their dog’s tail docked, the ideal tail length is six inches.

Lastly, your weimaraner’s exterior behavior should show the dog’s stamina, speed, grace and other fine points. Imagine also the impact of weimaraner training on your dog!Your dog’s personality and character also need to be active players when it comes to increasing its chances of winning, since it is in this area that winning dogs differ from others. In the end, it is also how well your weim bears itself on stage.
