All children love pets and they would love to have a dog if their parents will let them. Most parents imagine the disruption owning a dog would cause to their lives and try to resist. Parents often give in to the constant pressure but it may take the kids some time to convince them.
Once you have made the decision to get a dog you must choose what breed you want to get. You may find your local dog rescue center has a selection of dogs they would like to find homes for.
A new puppy in your home will probably mess because it is scared. Now you understand why people talk about potty training their dogs. Dogs are clean animals so they don’t want to mess near their bed so you must choose the right area for your dog potty training.
Your new dog does not yet know what is right or wrong and it is probably nervous as well. Take your puppy to the potty area if it looks uncomfortable but give it lots of reassurance. If it does it’s business congratulate it and tell it what a good dog it is.
Dogs will usually learn pretty quick but a young dog needs a lot of reminding what to do, at first. Be very patient and don’t get annoyed about accidents as they will happen and are not done on purpose.
If your puppy needs to get to the potty area he should be able to easily reach it to be successful. When he does give him lots of affection and congratulate him to show what a good dog he is. They learn the right thing to do and like getting congratulated so there are less accidents after a while.
More training can follow once you have a house trained dog. A puppy will enjoy being trained to sit by your kids. Your kids will enjoy teaching your dog and can play together for hours.
When your dog is trained to sit and stay on command you can develop the training to include other, more complicated, lessons. You should teach your dog to walk properly on a leash by teaching it to walk to heel.
Your dog must not run off to look at new things so it is important you teach it to stay with you.All the smells around will attract your dogs attention but he must stay with you unless you tell him otherwise.
Strangers in the street may not like your dog jumping up at them so make sure it behaves well. Don’t let your dog lick people’s faces because some people find it a very unpleasant experience.
Owning a dog brings responsibilities to keep it under control as well as bringing a lot of fun and happiness to your family. Take care that your dog is obedient and prevent it being annoying for other people. A well trained dog will behave properly around other people and animals and it will be a credit to you and your family.
